The Best YouTube Channels About the Bible and Christianity
A (long) list of my favourites on this topic
Here is a fact about me that you may or may not know: I watch a lot of YouTube. And I mean a lot. Perhaps it is not the best way to spend my time, but I have learned an absurd number of things through YouTube videos. As a Christian, I am interested in studying Christianity and its related topics such as the Bible, theology, and apologetics. There are many YouTube channels about these things, and I am a regular viewer of several. Below, I have compiled a list of my favourites that I highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn more. Most, but not all of these channels come from a Christian perspective and many of them are run by people with a degree in a relevant field.
Ancient Egypt and the Bible
My #1 favourite YouTube channel incorporates two of my biggest interests - ancient Egypt and the Bible. It is run by David A. Falk, a Christian, an Egyptologist, and the author of The Ark of the Covenant in its Egyptian Context. (As of writing this post, I am still the only person to have written a review of the book on Goodreads.) He posts a video every Monday that is in some way related to ancient Egypt, the Bible, or both. I would recommend starting with his playlist Evidence for the Exodus, which goes through some objections people have to the Exodus and what the evidence is for this event to have happened in history. There is also a live stream every Friday evening where subscribers can submit a question for Dr. Falk to answer.
Answering Adventism
If you are curious about Seventh-Day Adventism and would like to know how it differs from Christianity, this channel is a great way to start. The videos are made by a former Seventh-Day Adventist named Myles and generally focus on debunking Seventh-Day Adventist doctrine and claims made by Ellen G. White. They upload quite regularly and do many live streams as well.
Apologetics Roadshow
David Wood is a Christian and former atheist who has a PhD in philosophy and makes apologetics videos defending Christianity and criticizing Islam. I suggest watching his testimony video first. He also does frequent live streams (2-5x per week) with the Apostate Prophet, who is an ex-Muslim. I watch these live streams religiously and sometimes end up laughing at the ridiculous jokes that only people who have been watching them for a while will understand.
Beneath the Bible
If you love learning about biblical archaeology and the ancient Near Eastern context of the Bible, the videos on this channel will certainly be of interest to you. It is run by two archaeologists and a pastor and has videos about people groups mentioned in the Bible, animal imagery in the Bible, certain ancient artifacts, and many more.
Carmen Joy Imes
Carmen Joy Imes is an Old Testament scholar and the author of Bearing God’s Name and Being God’s Image. Her Torah Tuesday videos go over a passage from the Torah and provide insights into the Hebrew words, literary structure, and historical context. She is currently going through the book of Exodus, and you can watch the full playlist here.
DiscipleDojo
This channel has videos reviewing study Bibles, interviewing scholars, explaining Bible jargon, and teaching Bible content in interesting and engaging ways. The guy in the videos is James-Michael Smith and has an M.Div. He has also done Bible studies on every book from Genesis to Ruth.
Dr. Jordan B Cooper
Jordan Cooper makes videos about theology, philosophy, and culture from a Lutheran perspective.
Dr. Michael S. Heiser
If you are unaware, Michael Heiser was a scholar with a PhD in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Languages who wrote the incredibly popular book The Unseen Realm. He was most well-known for his work on the divine council, the idea that God has a council of supernatural beings that is seen in a few places in the Bible. This channel posts short 5-10 minute videos of him speaking that I think would be of interest to anyone wanting to learn things about the Bible that are not often talked about.
Early Christian History with Michael Bird
is a New Testament scholar, Anglican, and fellow Substack author who writes Word from the Bird as well as many books. His channel is all about early Christian history, and I highly recommend the videos on ancient texts.Exploring Reality
This channel has videos on apologetics and general Bible content which are quite interesting.
How to Faith A Life
How to Faith A Life is all about studying the Bible. Faith is a seminary student and pastor’s wife who makes Bible studies and reviews Christian books for their theological accuracy.
InspiringPhilosophy
Michael Jones of InspiringPhilosophy is a Christian apologist with a master’s in philosophy and is my all-time favourite debater. He has videos on all kinds of topics defending Christianity and the Bible, though I particularly like his content on refuting the documentary hypothesis, the historicity of the exodus and conquest, and alleged Bible errors.
Linguas Amo
This channel is run by a biblical studies student named Adam, and despite being quite small, its videos are very informative. He does some reaction videos, arguing for a late-date exodus, and other stuff about the Bible in its ancient context that I highly recommend.
Mark Ward
Mark Ward is a Christian who makes videos about Bible translations and what the differences are between them. Many of his videos address KJV-onlyism and why it is problematic, using arguments like pointing out false friends, which are words whose meaning has changed.
Melissa Dougherty
As an ex-New Thoughter, Melissa Dougherty makes videos about apologetics, progressive Christianity, and cults. She also does “mediocre satire videos” that I quite like.
Mike Winger
Mike Winger is a pastor who makes videos about the Bible and helps people better understand its teachings. He does regular live streams where he answers questions from his viewers and I have found his content to be very well-researched.
Questioning Christianity
As the name implies, Questioning Christianity makes videos addressing common questions related to Christianity. The host, Dan, has also done interviews on the channel with other Christians about important topics.
Ready to Harvest
This channel is all about Christian denominations and the differences between them. The videos vary in length and are very well-researched, making it my go-to source if I want to learn a few things about a certain denomination and what it teaches.
Speak Life
The channel Speak Life is run by Glen Scrivener, who makes longer videos responding to comments from well-known figures about Christianity and interviews with people. I have found his videos very insightful and though I only subscribed recently, it is quickly becoming one of my favourite YouTube channels.
Tablets and Temples
This channel has some very interesting content on the Bible and ancient Near Eastern history. It addresses some confusing biblical passages and explains things that modern readers may not understand about the Bible.
Testify
Eric Manning hosts the channel Testify, which is all about New Testament apologetics. From defending the traditional authorship of NT books to making arguments for the historicity of the events they record, this channel is full of good evidence for the truth of Christianity.
Truth Unites
Truth Unites is a great channel run by a pastor and author of several books, Gavin Ortlund. He does videos on apologetics, defending Protestantism, theology, and church history, which I greatly enjoy.
The Counsel of Trent
The Counsel of Trent is the channel for one of the most well-known Catholic apologists, Trent Horn. Although I obviously disagree with certain things he says as I am a Protestant, I always appreciate hearing his opinion and would recommend a lot of his videos. Plus, the pun in his channel name is so clever.
The Nerdy Christian
Although this channel’s host, Christopher is more active on Instagram, he makes great content on YouTube as well. The videos cover a wide range of topics that should interest any nerdy Christian like myself!
Wes Huff
This channel has videos about the New Testament and early Christianity. If you want to know more about the formation of the NT canon, apocryphal gospels, and biblical manuscripts, you should check this one out.
Whaddo You Meme??
Jon McCray makes content about famous people and pop culture, analyzing these things from a Christian perspective. I do not typically care about celebrities and all the strange things they do (because I live under a rock), but Jon has a way of making these things interesting and easy to understand, even for someone as ignorant as me.
What Your Pastor Didn’t Tell You
Zach is a guy who makes videos about the Bible, generally interviewing scholars. These interviews mainly fall within the realm of Old Testament studies and how the text relates to the surrounding context, with a special focus on Genesis 1-11. For videos on somewhat obscure but interesting things that your pastor probably never told you, you will want to subscribe to this one.
XKV8R — Robert R. Cargill, PhD
The final channel on this list is run by an archaeologist and author of The Cities That Built the Bible, a book I read earlier this year. There are videos about certain important artifacts, new discoveries, interviews with scholars, and cool Bible facts that you can use to annoy everyone around you. They also started doing live streams not long ago, and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching them.
That is the list. I know it was long, so thank you for reading! Feel free to drop your YouTube channel recommendations in the comments, and let me know if any of these sound interesting to you. Next week’s post will be my study on Judges 4, which is an exciting one, so I hope to see you there!
Thanks for all the wonderful recommendations! I subscribed to most of them.
-Exploring reality- should be my next stop on YouTube. Thanks for sharing Rachel.
Maybe just a suggestion worth adding. There's this 'The Truth Conversation ' by an apologist Bill Scott from Houston that host quite thoughtful and encouraging interviews of the big questions of Christianity.
