I’m curious what your one other black and white movie is 😂 And if over-dramatic acting takes you out of the film, I recommend Laura (1944). It’s one of my favorite movies of all time, and quite understated in the acting of most of the main characters. One or two of them think they’re God’s gift to mankind, so their lines are high-minded and profuse, but it fits their character, and we all know the type.
It’s a murder mystery, and the detective is magnificently quiet and collected and clear-eyed, while not at all attempting to be charismatic in the least, but also not being a jerk about it. I can’t think of another leading man who’s done that.
Sounds like you have had an interesting time in film and television. You definitely should watch ALL the Studio Ghibli films - they are the best! I'm enjoying the Rings of Power even though it is not adhering to the lore - I think it's well done and I am enjoying the storytelling. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell sounds interesting and so does the John Williams documentary. Thanks for sharing!
Persuasion 1995 is incredible! My husband just read the book for the first time and we watched it together--Sophie Thompson as Mary Musgrove was his favorite part, he found her so funny. The scene of Anne asking Wentworth to stay at the concert and his reply, "there is nothing worth my staying for," is in the book. Chapter 20 is so tense: "It was misery to think of Mr Elliot’s attentions. Their evil was incalculable." LOL, dramatic much, Anne?
I watched Brigadoon recently, the 1954 version with Gene Kelly, and it was fun in that only-plausible-on-Broadway sort of way. The sets were impressive and the choreography was amazing (of course!) even if the story was hard to believe in, but that's part of the charm.
Thank you for validating my decision not to watch season two of Rings of Power.

It’s fantastic.
That sounds interesting! The other black and white movie I've watched is Schindler's List which I saw in my high school history class.
Ahh, good one.
